The Challenge
We were asked to attend a site on behalf of our client as they were having difficulty with an ABB Drive which controlled a Water Booster Pumping Station. The ABB Drive calls the pumps to run when there is a demand for water.
The solution
The site was a residential block on an army barracks, which had a number of bathrooms on different floors. Depending on the demand for water, the ABB Drive calls one or more pumps to run to ensure a constant pressure.
On attending the site we tested the ABB Drive which showed a fault, and after further investigation, it was taken to our workshop and repaired.
After the repair of the ABB Drive and reinstalling it on site, we loaded the programme and copied the settings from the second system into the repaired drive.
The control panel would still not provide the start and run signal from the 240 volts control required to run the repaired drive correctly, and the outputs needed to close the motor output contactors. We therefore had to trace the cabling back as there were no drawings of the drive or panel. We discovered that the Telemecanique PLC relay would not provide the required commands to run the system.
The Result
We also replaced the telemecanique PLC relay in the panel to allow a full pump duty standby selection. The ABB Drive and controls were tested and left working as per the original installation setup.
This was all completed without any drawings or previous knowledge of the site, down to the expertise and experience of our engineers.
