What started as a small Bristol repair business in 1959 has grown into a trusted, nationwide electric motor repair specialist — while staying true to where we started.
As well as our state-of-the-art workshops, we also have fantastic mobile facilities, making us the company of choice for onsite repair and installation. 1959
Founded as Bristol Electrical Repairs
Formally Bristol Electrical Repairs, founded in 1959 specialised in rewinding and repairing AC and DC Motors, transformers and special equipment up to 500hp.
1961
Relocation to Barton Manor
With an increase in contracts from heavy industry (including milling and quarrying), Bristol Electrical Repair found themselves short of space and in 1961 they relocated to Barton Manor.
1999–2000
Acquired by Mawdsleys
In 1999, Bristol Electrical Repair was approached by Messrs Mawdsleys, and negotiations were started. Meessrs Mawdsleys purchased the trade customer list, the machinery tools and stock, under the company name of Mawdsleys. The takeover was completed in February 2000.
2004
Established as Mawdsleys BER Ltd.
We have been established as Mawdsleys BER Ltd. since February 2004, providing electrical, mechanical and electronic engineering services which cover repair, maintenance and supply.
What we do
We provide electric motor repair, rewind, refurbishment, design and manufacture services for AC motors, DC motors, ATEX/Ex motors, generators and pumps — supporting industries including rail, marine, defence and general manufacturing. As well as our state-of-the-art Bristol workshop, we have mobile facilities for on-site repair and installation, making us a practical choice whether your motor can travel to us or needs work in situ.

Our workshop is based in Bristol, where the majority of our repair, rewind and manufacturing work takes place. If you’re looking for electric motor repair near you in Bristol or the South West, our workshop is open for direct drop-off, and we offer collection for motors that can’t easily travel.
Beyond the region, our nationwide courier network and mobile site-services team mean we regularly support customers across the whole of the UK, plus specialist naval and marine work internationally.
