Investing in Our People: Safe Use & Mounting of Abrasive Wheels Training
At Mawdsleys, we take great pride in our commitment to providing a safe, supportive, and high-standard environment for our team. As specialists in electrical rotating equipment, the quality of our service is directly linked to the skill, safety, and wellbeing of our engineers. Our values—togetherness, team appreciation, trust, and integrity—are not only embedded in the way we collaborate with you, our clients, but also in the way we prioritise safety and quality in our operations. Great example is our recent training session focused on the Safe Use & Mounting of Abrasive Wheels provided by HL Training Services.
Comprehensive Abrasive Wheel Training for Enhanced Safety
Following a more theoretical training session earlier, we recently conducted a practical training session at our site. It enabled our engineers to apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios.
The training was made specifically for us and it covered all of our available grinding equipment: angle grinders, pedestal grinding wheels & linishers. Key elements included:
- Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): One of the core aspects of the training was emphasising the need for appropriate PPE.
- Understanding Components: A thorough understanding of the various components used with abrasive wheels, including flanges, blotters, bushes, and nuts, is vital. Our engineers learned the functions of each part and the importance of ensuring they are correctly used in assemblies.
- Identifying Hazards and Managing Risks: Our engineers were trained to recognise potential dangers associated with abrasive wheels. Safety measures that must be in place to avoid accidents were also reviewed.
- Marking, Storing, and Handling Abrasive Wheels: Another focus was on the correct methods for marking abrasive wheels with their type, size, and maximum operating speed. Proper procedures for storage and handling were also an important part.
- Inspection and Testing for Damage: Our engineers trained how to inspect and test abrasive wheels for signs of wear or damage, ensuring that every wheel is safe and operational before use.
- Correct Assembly and Balancing: The instructor touched on the importance of properly assembling abrasive wheels to ensure that they are balanced and safe to use. Correct assembly is essential in preventing accidents and ensuring the efficiency of the equipment.
- Adjusting Work Rest on Grinding Machines: Correct adjustment of work rests on pedestal or bench grinding machines was covered, which is crucial for maintaining precision and ensuring operator safety.
Strong Commitment to Quality and Safety
We want to extend our gratitude to the training provider HL Training Services for the comprehensive training provided. By investing in our people and providing them with the latest accreditations, skills, and tools they need to succeed, we ensure the wellbeing of our workforce, and uphold the standards of quality and precision that our clients expect.
