Our AC motor repair process

  • Receipt & traceability — your motor is logged into our digital job tracking system on arrival, giving you full visibility of progress.
  • Full inspection — mechanical and electrical diagnostics identify the exact cause of failure, with findings recorded on a detailed job card.
  • Winding test — we test for faults, resistance and insulation quality. If the stator is compromised, it’s rewound to original spec using high-grade enamelled copper and class-rated insulating varnish.
  • Rotor check & balancing — condition, balance and tolerances are confirmed against manufacturer specification.
  • Rebuild & test — the motor is reassembled and run in our test facility before it’s signed off.
  • Report & return — you receive a full repair report, and the motor is shipped or delivered back ready to install.

Signs your AC motor needs repair

Don’t wait for a full breakdown. Common warning signs include:

  • Unusual noise or vibration
  • Overheating
  • Burning smell or visible smoke
  • Reduced performance or output
  • Failure to start
  • Frequent tripping of circuit breakers

Catching these early usually means a cheaper, faster repair — and avoids unplanned downtime.

Repair or replace? What to consider

Not every faulty motor needs replacing. A few factors that should shape the decision:

  • Age — an older motor can often be repaired faster and more cost-effectively than sourcing, shipping and installing a replacement. But if it’s near end-of-life, a modern, more energy-efficient motor may pay for itself over time.
  • Output/usage — for smaller motors used infrequently, repair is usually the more cost-effective route. Higher-output motors make the cost of downtime — and therefore of delay — much more significant.
  • Time — a quality repair can be done in as little as 24 hours. Replacement means sourcing, shipping and fitting, which is almost always slower and more disruptive.

Not sure which makes sense for your motor? Get in touch for a straight answer — we’ll tell you honestly if repair isn’t the right call.

AC Motor Repair FAQ

How much does an AC motor repair cost?

Cost depends on motor size, fault type and whether a rewind is needed. We provide a full inspection report and fixed quote before any work begins — no surprises.

Can all AC motors be repaired?

Most can. Age, damage severity and part availability are the main limiting factors — our inspection will tell you definitively whether repair is viable.

Do you repair ATEX/hazardous area motors?

Yes — we're an AEMT Ex Registered Repairer, certified for ATEX motor repair to the required safety standards.

Do you collect motors, or can you repair on site?

Both. We collect via our courier network or you can deliver to our Bristol workshop. If a motor can't be removed, our site services team can carry out repairs in situ.
