Where any electrical equipment such as a motor is being used in a hazardous area, it must comply with ATEX regulations, the set of rules which relates to equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.

Types of ATEX Motor We Work With

Potentially explosive atmospheres have zone classifications which define the minimum safety level a motor in that atmosphere must meet. The most common types of motor include:

Dust ignition proof (Ex t) – This type of motor has an ingress protection (IP) rating high enough to prevent any dust from entering the motor.
Flameproof (Ex d) – Flameproof motors have joint with spigots to prevent flames from escaping, flame paths within the motor and the motor housing is built to withstand an internal explosion.
Increased safety (Ex ec & Ex eb) – Previously called ‘non sparking’ motors, these motors do not create any sparks when starting up or running.
