Role Title: AC & DC Motor Engineer

Purpose of role: To Repair / Refurbish AC/DC Electric Motors

Reports to: Production Co-Ordinator

Reportees: None at present

Location: Unit C2 Kingsland Trading Estate, St. Phillips Road, Bristol. BS2 0JZ

Main Duties:

  • Effectively diagnose and identify faults and failures with equipment and provide effective solutions and escalate where necessary
  • Undertake all M&E maintenance tasks on customer assets allocated to an agreed standard
  • Order and fit parts or components as prescribed by company procedures
  • Carry-out reverse or repair work to suit customer’s urgency
  • Ensure work is carried out in compliance with all health and safety requirements and to adhere to the best working practices
  • Actively take part in risk assessment, and all related Health and Safety issues
  • Provide knowledge and information to operational teams and customers
  • Day to day liaison with operational staff


Types of equipment you will be expected to work with:

  • All types of AC/DC Motors
  • Pumps
  • Actuators


Qualifications and experience required to do this role:

  • Experienced in this specific discipline
  • BTEC/NVQ or equivalent qualification in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering
  • A valid UK driving licence.

This role profile is not exhaustive; it will be subject to periodic review and may be amended to meet the changing needs of the business. The post holder will be expected to participate in this process and the Mawdsleys HR Representative would aim to reach agreement to the changes.

We are recruiting for an experienced CNC/Manual Machinist to join our amazing team in Bristol. The role will include CNC lathe and mill programming, setting and maintenance work on a variety of assets.

Duties include:

As a CNC and manual machinist, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will be operating small to large machine tools whilst manufacturing complex components across a variety of different materials. You’ll also:

  • Be a paragon of health and safety and responsible for following processes to deliver a quality product
  • Champion Lean & 6 Sigma work and support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Be a creative team player, able to work autonomously on your own as well as with a multidisciplinary team of electrical, mechanical and project professionals
  • Exemplify problem solving, either by creating CNC programmes or by your quality control and inspection skills


Experience:

  • Time served or demonstrably experienced machinist in the manufacturing industry with knowledge of programming, setting and various machining techniques, processes and equipment
  • Knowledge in various milling techniques and processes
  • Experience with programming and Lean 6 Sigma will be a bonus, but training will be arranged if required
  • Experience in reading technical drawings and engineering specs

Description: As a Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Apprentice at Mawdsleys, you will embark on a comprehensive training program to develop the skills necessary for manufacturing, repairing, and servicing AC/DC Rotating Electrical Motors.

During your apprenticeship at Mawdsleys, you will gain valuable skills and experience in the following areas:

  • Testing and inspection of electrical motors
  • Machining components to precise specifications
  • Motor re-winding techniques
  • Welding and joining processes
  • Finishing processes, such as polishing and surface treatment
  • Painting and coating applications


In addition to on-the-job training, you will also be required to complete an Advanced Apprenticeship in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering, supported by South Gloucestershire and Stroud College. This structured learning program will cover a range of essential topics, including:

  • Health and safety practices
  • Interpretation of engineering drawings and documents
  • Milling operations
  • Turning operations
  • Bench fitting techniques
  • Mechanical principles and applications of mathematics in engineering
  • Computer-Aided Design (CAD)
  • Mechanical measurement and inspection techniques


Working Week

You will be expected to work from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday. The working week includes a 15-minute break in the morning and a 30-minute lunch break.

Requirements and Prospects

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of safe practices and personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Basic machining capability and familiarity with basic measuring equipment are desirable skills for this role.

Qualifications Required

To be considered for this role, you must have a minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade A*-C or 9-4, including Mathematics and English. Additionally, having the right attitude, work ethic, and commitment to both your education and employment are essential requirements for this role.
